Whenever you think you oppose someone else’s idea you better understand it so thoroughly that you can explain to them, in their own terms, what is wrong with the idea. You must not try to correct others, because people will identify their SELF with their IDEA. “That idea is inaccurate because” is the way to go. Not “You are wrong.” Criticize the idea NOT the person! Otherwise, they will dig their heels in and double down and persist in being wrong all the way to the grave, hopefully theirs and not yours!

-Very good advice that is always worth a refresher, in my case anyway. Thank you for taking the time to share and present a path for success. I once had a commander who would have to review my performance and generally put out fire I had mostly inadvertently created. He was kind enough to see potential in me and did not necessarily disagree with my words, just my delivery that was a bit too direct for many. His advice and serious request was this: “in the future maybe wrap a towel or two around the bat before hitting them over the head with it?”
