Mysterious Blasts Hit Three Tankers in Mediterranean, Causes Unknown

A series of unexplained blasts has damaged three oil tankers in the Mediterranean over the past month, leaving the shipping industry on high alert. The incidents, which are the first of their kind in decades, have raised concerns about the safety of non-military vessels in the region.
According to shipping and security sources, the affected tankers include the Greek-operated crude oil tanker Seajewel, which suffered a one-meter breach below the waterline while anchored at an Italian port on Saturday. A second blast occurred on the same vessel 20 minutes later, but caused no further damage. Italian authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
Two other tankers, the Seacharm and the Grace Ferrum, were also damaged by blasts in separate incidents. The Seacharm, operated by the same company as the Seajewel, was hit off the coast of Turkey in late January, while the Liberia-flagged Grace Ferrum was damaged off Libya in February and is currently in need of a salvage operation.
Notably, all three tankers had recently visited Russian ports, according to ship tracking data and sources. This has sparked concerns among shipping industry officials, who are calling for increased vigilance in the region.
The incidents come on the heels of a similar explosion that sank a Russian cargo ship, the Ursa Major, off the coast of Spain in December, resulting in the disappearance of two crew members. As the investigation into these mysterious blasts continues, the shipping industry remains on high alert, with many questions still unanswered about the causes and potential consequences of these incidents.
