暴bao4 This character originally meant "to dry out in the sun" (apparently as part of preparation of food) and thus extended to the ideas of heat, dry, and action needed to prepare food and thus by extension that which is violent, abrupt, sudden, as in breaking of grains when threshing them or flaying the skin of a deer.
